More than 200 employees will be displaced when the Verizon Call Center leaves Bangor in the spring.
According to city officials, the announcement was made to employees today.
Employees were told they could relocate to another center or receive a severance package.
According to the city manager, the Verizon corporate office is closing other centers around the country as well, impacting a total of 3200 employees.
In a statement from the company, a representative of Verizon says this was a necessary decision to make the best use of extra capacity in the remaining locations.
