The warm weather this weekend made for perfect playing conditions for the annual Woodlawn Invitational Croquet Tournament.
19 competitors competed in different brackets over the past several days..
Winners will be honored on the Chapman/Gould Trophy, named after two former tournament participants.
Tournament officials say that the tournament is open to any age and that playing croquet is universal
“You can play well into your years. we had one person in our championship flight who was 84 years old. He played very well. Women are great players. There’s a lot of strategy involved in six-wicket croquet. It’s totally different than the old backyard game we played as kids,” says Perry Mattson, the coordinator for the tournament.
Tournament organizers tell us that a second croquet tournament will be held around Labor Day.
