In Skowhegan, there’s a new business in town. It held its grand opening Saturday.
Amanda Clark won a Main Street Skowhegan Savings award, and with the winnings opened “The Maine Barkery.” She bakes and sells all natural dog treats at her Water Street location.
What began as making a few healthy dog treats for friends and family expanded to a business two years ago. Then her company won $20,000 in a challenge aimed at helping folks develop and run their own businesses.
She says she’s excited to be welcomed by the community and to keep business local.
“You know if you asked me three years ago what I’d be doing, this isn’t what I thought. But my husband and I got a dog and it just- I went with it. It seems like there’s going to be a really good response to having the Maine Barkery in downtown Skowhegan,” said Clark.
The Barkery also sells pet products, many of which are sourced from local businesses.
