Grab your sunglasses and beach pail to head out to Lee this Saturday, June 28, for a free barbecue and beach day from 12-4pm. The Sgt. Joel A. House Summer Camp Fund will host their 6th annual Beach ‘N Barbecue fundraiser to help support 50 Maine children as they reach for their dreams by attending one week of an academic, sports, visual/performing arts, conservation, or Bible camp of their choice.
A super raffle will be drawn on over 20 prizes donated by local businesses. The prize list includes a muzzle loader gun from Berb’s Gun Shop in Mattawamkeag; an 14’ canoe from Old Town Canoe; fleece jacket from Lincoln Power Sports; 1-night stay at the White Tail Inn in Lincoln; $15 gift card to Timberhouse of Lincoln; several Lincoln Subway gift cards; a tanning package by Razor’s Edge in Lincoln; $50 gift certificate to Gilmore’s of Lincoln; $25 gift card from Golden Jade in Lincoln; 1 hour Swedish massage from Fresh Oil Massage & Wellness in Lee; 70-quart cooler from Lincoln’s Wal-Mart; 55-piece ratchet bit driver & socket wrench set from Lincoln’s Sears; ItWorks Body Wrap from Kelly Fox of Lee; admission pass to Springfield Fair; Black and Decker Sander from S.W. Special guests will include the bluegrass band Northbound Express with Don & Angie Glidden, Deb Burdin, Fred Pike, Jr., Scott Bates, and John Kilby. They will also be jamming for the public on Friday evening at the Sleeping Bear Campground in Lee. Debra McKay and Charlie, the mini-horse, from KD Stables in Lee will be there representing one of our summer camps. Maine State Representative Beth Turner from Burlington plans to attend, as well. This year will be a special year for Joel’s family. Several of his Army buddies who were deployed with him in Iraq will be flying in to attend the event and visit the family. The Bangor Marine Corps League and Marine Corps Auxiliary will be helping to serve up the burgers and dogs. Petey Cole and her crew will be serving up the other food. Tim Horton’s in Lincoln will be providing coffee support to the set up crew. Lee Academy will provide equipment. The Town of Lee will provide the beach from the afternoon.
