A storm sliding northeast along the coast of Maine  will continue to bring rain showers to most of our region today, with a light wintry mix continuing across far northern parts of the state. The wintry mix of precipitation across the far north will turn to mostly rain this afternoon as temps warm to the upper 30s north and low to mid 40s south.  Rain and mixed precipitation will taper off later this afternoon as the  storm lifts up into southeastern Canada.

Wintry Mix and Rain Saturday

A storm to our northwest and a second storm lifting up along the New England coastline will continue to bring a mixed bag of precipitation to Maine Saturday. The wintry mix of precipitation will turn to mostly rain over much or our region later Saturday morning as temps warm to the upper 30s north and low to mid 40s south. Far northern parts of Maine might see several slushy inches of snow early Saturday, with a coating to 2” being found over the rest of interior central Maine. Southern and coastal Maine will see little if any snow accumulation as the bulk of the precipitation falls as rain. Rain and mixed precipitation will taper off later in the afternoon as the primary and secondary storms lift up into southeastern Canada.

A storm system lifting north from the Great Lakes region on up into Ontario will spread clouds into Maine this evening. While the primary storm moves up to the west of New England tonight, a secondary storm will develop over Southern New England. The new secondary storm will slide northeast and bring a mixed bag of precipitation to our region late tonight and Saturday morning. The wintry mix of precipitation will turn to mostly rain over much or our region as we progress through Saturday morning as temps warm to the upper 30s north and low to mid 40s south. Far northern parts of Maine might see several slushy inches of snow late tonight and early Saturday, with a coating to 2” being found over the rest of interior central Maine. Southern and coastal Maine will see little if any snow accumulation as the bulk of the precipitation falls as rain. Rain and mixed precipitation will taper off later Saturday afternoon as the primary and secondary storms lift up into southeastern Canada.

High pressure dominates today’s forecast with sunshine and highs in the low to mid-40s. Clouds will begin to increase across the state during the mid-late afternoon hours as high pressure moves to our east and our next storm system approaches from the west. Clouds will thicken up tonight with precipitation arriving in most locales after midnight. It will be cold enough so that precipitation will start out as snow and mix for areas away from the coast while coastal areas will be warm enough to see just plain rain. Nighttime temperatures will drop to the upper 20s to mid-30s from north to south for overnight lows.

Sun to Late Clouds Today, with Showers Saturday

High pressure will move east across New England early today and bring a mostly sunny start to the day. As the high departs to our east clouds will begin to increase across the Pine Tree State later this afternoon as a storm over the Great Lakes Region begins to head northeast. While the initial storm moves up to the west of New England tonight, a secondary storm will develop over southern New England. The new secondary storm will slide northeast and bring a mixed bag of precipitation to our region later tonight and Saturday morning. The wintry mix of precipitation will turn to mostly rain over much or our region Saturday morning as temps warm to the upper 30s north and low to mid 40s south. Northern parts of Maine might see a couple of slushy inches of snow late tonight and early Saturday, but elsewhere across the state little if any snow will accumulate. Rain and mixed precipitation will taper off later Saturday afternoon as the primary and secondary storms lift up into southeastern Canada.

Mix of Sun & Clouds Today, More Sunshine Friday

The remnants of a weakening cold front will move east of the state during the afternoon. This will provide us with some cloudiness today as well as a slight chance for a few snow/rain showers for northern areas. Clouds will be most prevalent over the northern half of the state today with brighter conditions expected elsewhere. Temperatures will be seasonable today with highs in the upper 30s to mid-40s. Skies will clear out tonight as high pressure builds into the area. Nighttime temperatures will drop to the 20s for lows.

A slightly cooler airmass will build into our region today on an active northwest breeze, with temps across northern Maine holding in the upper 30s and in the low to mid 40s across the rest of the state. Skies will average partly sunny over southern and central Maine today with mostly cloudy skies being found across the north.

A weakening cold front is forecast to move towards the state today giving us some cloudiness during the day with a fair amount of sunshine mixed in. The front doesn’t have a lot of moisture with it so it is expected to be more of a cloud producer for us with no precipitation expected.  Temperatures will top off in the upper 30s to mid-40s for highs this afternoon. A few clouds will linger around the area tonight with partly cloudy skies and lows dropping to the mid and upper 20s.

Sunny & Comfortable Temps This Week

Today will feature a mix of sun and clouds as a low passes to our northwest. Thursday and Friday look a bit milder with highs in the mid to upper 40s with mostly sunny skies as a second low passes to our south and east. Our next chance of precip comes Saturday with a third low moving into the region. It looks like mostly rain at this point but we could see some sleet and freezing rain mixing in, especially in northern locations.

We’ll see skies clearing this morning as a ridge of high pressure moves into our area. It’ll turn mostly sunny for today. We’ll see highs this afternoon in the upper 30s and low 40s but with mostly sunny skies. Wednesday will be similar but with partly cloudy skies as a low passes to our northwest. Thursday and Friday look a bit milder with highs in the mid to upper 40s with mostly sunny skies. Our next chance of precip comes Saturday with another low moving into the region.

Skies will continue to clear out Downeast while the rest of the state enjoys plenty of sunshine this afternoon. Northerly winds will remain strong today averaging 10-20 MPH and gusting to 30 MPH at times which will add an extra chill to the air. Temperatures are expected to be seasonable this afternoon with highs in the upper 30s to mid-40s but feeling more like it’s in the mid-20s to around 30° at times with the wind factored in. Skies will be clear to partly cloudy tonight with lows bottoming out in the mid-teens to near 20° north and low to mid-20s elsewhere.

Lots of clouds around for the remainder of our Monday. Precipitation will continue to gradually wind down as low pressure moves away from the state. Scattered snow showers are possible over northern areas while the rest of the state see occasional light mix and/or rain this afternoon. With high pressure positioned to our north and west and low pressure to our south and east, northerly winds will remain strong today averaging 15-25 MPH with higher gusts to 30-35 MPH possible. Temperatures won’t move much today with highs only topping off in the mid-30s to near 40°, a few degrees below average for this time of year. Low pressure will continue to pull away from the area tonight, taking all the precipitation with it and giving way to clearing skies late tonight as a ridge of high pressure begins to take over.

We’ll see some lighter mixed precip continue today as low pressure system continues to track to the northeast away from the region. The back edge will be cold enough to support a changeover to some light snow as the day progresses. It looks like highs today will be in the mid-30s to around 40°.

Messy Winter Storm For Today Into Tomorrow

A WINTER STORM WARNING is up for today into Monday. Heavy, wet snow is likely in these areas and will accumulate to between 6-12″.  A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY has been posted due to the likelihood for sleet, freezing rain, and snow in the areas away from the coast. Areas also the coast are under a FLOOD WATCH because of the heavy rain (over 2″ possible) that is expected over the next day and a half. (The colors in Canada are snowfall warnings and off the coast are marine gale watches.)

Weak low pressure is forecast to pass just north of the state today, allowing milder air to move into the region and giving us some snow, mix and rain this afternoon. Plan on scattered mixed precipitation changing to rain north and scattered rain showers elsewhere for the rest of the day. Highs will top off in the upper 30s to low 40s this afternoon. Lingering showers will end early tonight as the storm pulls a cold front across the state. Rain showers may change back to snow over northern areas before ending. Lows will remain mild tonight with temperatures only bottoming out in the low to mid-30s for most spots. Skies will clear out after midnight tonight as high pressure starts moving into the region.

Low pressure passing just to our north today will slowly pull a warm front through Maine during the day. The approaching front will bring a mixture of snow, sleet and rain to our region early today, but as the warm front lifts to our north the wintry mix should change to all rain as temps warm to the upper 30s to mid 40s from north to south. Skies will begin to clear back out as the storms trailing cold front sweeps through our area later tonight.

A ridge of high pressure will slide into the area today giving us a good amount of sunshine. Sunshine will gradually fade this afternoon as our next storm approaches from the west. Temperatures will remain below average with highs in the mid-20s to low 30s this afternoon. Winds will remain gusty today as strong low pressure sits to our east/northeast. West/northwest winds could gust to 30-40 MPH this morning then slowly diminish this afternoon. Clouds will continue to thicken tonight as we may see some light snow or snow showers moving into western and northwestern parts of the state after midnight otherwise most locales will remain dry through the nighttime hours.

High pressure approaching New England from the west will bring mostly to partly sunny skies to our region today, but once again temps will run well below normal as a gusty northwest breeze continues to pull cold air south into New England from central Canada. High temps will hold in the mid 20s to low 30s despite a good deal of sunshine. The wind will gust to over 25 mph much of today, but as the high gets closer late in the day the wind will slowly diminish.
