Rain Tapering to Showers Today

Chris Ewing

Updated 4 months ago

From the WABI-TV5 & CW Forecast Center:

The steadier rainfall will taper off from south to north today as the surface low lifts up towards the Bay of Fundy later in the day. The best chance of seeing a little sun later today will be over southern and central parts of Maine, but the atmosphere aloft will continue to remain unstable even later in the day and that will likely lead to more pop-up showers developing. High temps today will range from the upper 60s north to the low to mid 70s south.

Becoming Breezy, with Developing Showers Today

Chris Ewing

Updated 4 months ago

From the WABI-TV5 & CW Forecast Center:

An unusually strong storm system for the summer months that has been soaking some areas from the lower Great Lakes on down into portions of the Mid-Atlantic will continue to move east and northeast into the New England as we move through today. The storm will bring increasing and thickening clouds to the Maine this morning with showers spreading from west to east as the day moves along. The steadiest and heaviest rain in Maine will fall as the surface storm slides northeast along the New England Coastline later this evening through Thursday morning with many towns likely receiving between 1 and 2″, with a few spots possible seeing as much as 3″. The combination of clouds, rain and a gusty onshore breeze will hold the temps in the mid 60s to low 70s both today and Thursday.

The high pressure system will keep us mainly sunny as we go through today. It is slowly moving to the north and east. The low pressure system will be making its way into the region tomorrow bringing clouds and showers for the day. Showers will hold off until the afternoon hours across the forecast area. Looks like we’ll see a good soaking rain Wednesday into Thursday. Most locations will pick up around an inch if you split the difference between models. Temps much cooler for Wednesday through Saturday too with highs only reaching into the upper 60s and low to mid 70s.

Sunny Sunday, A Few Showers Late Monday

Chris Ewing

Updated 4 months ago

From the WABI-TV5 & CW Forecast Center:

A building ridge of high pressure approaching the Northeast will bring mostly to partly sunny skies to all of New England Sunday. There still may be enough instability in the upper atmosphere this weekend to kick off an isolated shower or storm today, with the best chance of seeing the storms being found over far eastern parts of Maine. High temps Saturday will likely range from the mid 70s to lower 80s, with highs on Sunday reaching the upper 70s to mid 80s in our region. The ridge of high pressure will continue to bring fair skies and warm temperatures to Maine on Monday as it slowly moves off to our southeast. An approaching storm both at the surface and aloft will likely bring an increased risk of showers and storms to Maine Tuesday night and Wednesday. The combination of clouds, showers and an onshore breeze will likely hold temps in the 60s to low 70s on Wednesday and Thursday.

Scattered Showers & T’storms Possible This Afternoon, Shower Chances Continue Thursday

Todd Simcox

Updated 4 months ago

From the TV 5 Forecast Center:

With a slow moving cold front in the vicinity and an upper level disturbance forecast to come through the state this afternoon, we’ll continue to see scattered showers and thunderstorms for the remainder of the daylight hours with the best chances over areas south of Greenville and Millinocket. Areas further north will see a brighter and slightly drier day. Less humid air will gradually move in during the day today so expect a more comfortable feel to the air by later this afternoon and evening. With more clouds around today than we have seen the past few days, temperatures will be slightly cooler with highs in the mid-70s to around 80° this afternoon. Any leftover showers will wind down early tonight and skies will turn partly cloudy. With the drier air in place, we’ll see a cooler, more comfortable night tonight with temperatures dropping to the low to mid-50s in most spots and some upper 40s in spots up north for nighttime lows.

Sun, Showers, & Storms Through the Work Week

Jessica Conley

Updated 4 months ago

A cold front approaches the area today so we’ll be able to see a mix of sun and clouds to start before more showers and thunderstorms develop in the afternoon and evening. The front stalls over the state on Wednesday so there will be a possibility for a few scattered showers lingering around especially over areas closer to the coast. There will be drier air behind the front for Thursday. High pressure starts to try to build in on Thursday, but an upper level trough will bring us the possibility for a couple of afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms. Friday will be similar with a few isolated showers and thunderstorms popping up again in the afternoon and evening. Finally, by this weekend, an area of high pressure moves in and things will be looking great with mostly sunny skies for both Saturday and Sunday and high temperatures right around normal.

Unsettled Pattern For Much Of This Week

Todd Simcox

Updated 4 months ago

From the TV 5 Forecast Center:

Showers and thunderstorms that were moving across parts of Oxford, Franklin and Piscataquis Counties earlier this morning have weakened and moved into northern Penosbcot and eastern Aroostook counties as of lunchtime.  These showers will continue moving east/northeastward out of the state early this afternoon. An upper level disturbance is forecast to move through the state giving us a chance for some scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. The showers and thunderstorms will be hit or miss so some spots may get wet and some spots may not see anything at all. Severe weather is not expected but any thunderstorms that develop could have heavy downpours with them. Otherwise, we’ll see varying amounts of clouds and sunshine today with highs in the mid-70s to around 80°. Shower activity will diminish tonight and we’ll see partly cloudy skies with some patchy fog developing especially in areas that see showers today. Nighttime temperatures will range from the mid-50s to around 60° for lows.

Clouds, Showers, and T’Storms for the First Half of the Week

Jessica Conley

Updated 4 months ago

The work week starts out a little gray with partly to mostly cloudy skies around today as a trough of low pressure stays in the area. It will bring us some scattered showers and possibly some thunderstorms during the day. We’ll see a bit more sunshine to start the day on Tuesday as the trough moves out, but by Tuesday afternoon a cold front moves in and bring us some scattered showers and thunderstorms again. The trough takes its time moving through the area Wednesday so we’ll see more scattered showers and thunderstorms. Looks like things improve a bit for Thursday and Friday.

Unsettled Weather for the First Half of the Week

Jessica Conley

Updated 4 months ago

Kind of a repeating forecast with the current weather pattern. The next several days feature some sun with an increased chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon.

The rest of the weekend will be unsettled with the chance for showers and thunderstorms tonight and tomorrow. We’ll have more clouds around as well. Right now Monday is looking partly cloudy with showers likely and thunderstorms possible, especially in the afternoon and evening, as a low pressure system moves through the region. Partly sunny for Tuesday as a trough of low pressure brings some clouds to the region. On Wednesday a cold front crosses the region and brings the chance for scattered showers during the day and evening. Thursday looks to be much better with mainly sunny skies behind the front.
