Showers & Thunderstorms for the Rest of Today, Sunny & Cooler Tomorrow

Jessica Conley

Updated 4 months ago

Today’s high temperatures stay warm, making it into the mid 70s at the coast and into the upper 70s and lower 80s inland. We’ll see some clouds to start the day with showers and thunderstorms developing in the afternoon and evening, from northwest to southeast, as a cold front moves through the region. The Storm Prediction Center has put us in a “slight risk” category for severe weather and I’m thinking it will be very likely. Looks like strong, gusty winds, frequent lightning, and heavy downpours all may be possible into late this evening. Overnight lows into Sunday cool off into the mid 40s north, and in the low to mid 50s everywhere else.

Warm & Humid This Afternoon, Showers & T’storms Saturday

Todd Simcox

Updated 4 months ago

From the TV 5 Forecast Center:

We’ll continue to see partly to mostly sunny skies and very warm temperatures this afternoon with highs topping off in the upper 70s to low 80s along the coastline and mainly mid-80s inland. South/southwesterly winds will usher more humidity back into the region so you’ll notice the air becoming more and more sticky as the day progresses. Most locations should stay dry tonight but I can’t rule out a few widely scattered showers as a cold front approaches the state. It will be a very mild and very sticky night with low temperatures in the 60s to near 70°.

Mostly Sunny, Mild & Pleasant Today

Chris Ewing

Updated 4 months ago

From the WABI-TV5 & CW Forecast Center:

High pressure building into the Northeast will bring our region mostly sunny skies today as it continues to slowly move east. Highs today will range from the upper 70s to low 80s. The high will gradually move east off the Mid-Atlantic Coastline tonight. As the high shifts off to our southeast a southwest breeze will begin to usher high humidity levels back into Maine Friday. A storm riding east from the Hudson Bay region will pull a cold front into western New England later Friday night, with the front slowly crossing Maine on Saturday. A small storm will likely develop along the front Friday night and Saturday and that will bring our region a period of rain starting later Friday night or early Saturday. The periods of showers will continue across much of our area during the daylight hours Saturday, with the rain finally tapering off towards evening as the front pushes off to our east. Cooler and less humid air will filter back into Saturday night and Sunday as the wind shifts into the northwest behind the front. A large dome of high pressure will build south from Quebec and bring New England bright skies with near seasonable temps Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

Sunshine, Warm & Less Humid This Afternoon, Great Weather Thursday

Todd Simcox

Updated 4 months ago

We’ll see a great afternoon as high pressure builds into the Northeast. Drier air moving in behind the cold front, that crossed the state this morning, will allow humidity levels to continue to drop as the afternoon progresses. Temperatures will remain warm with highs in the mid-70s to low 80s this afternoon. Skies will be clear tonight with temperatures dropping to the 50s for nighttime lows.

Lingering low clouds and patchy fog will continue to slowly burn off early this afternoon giving way to variably cloudy skies for the remainder of the day.  A cold front will be approaching the state this afternoon and so we may see a few afternoon showers and thunderstorms mainly over northwestern and western areas otherwise it looks like the daylight hours will remain dry for most spots. September Starts Today But Temps Stay Summery

Jessica Conley

Updated 4 months ago

Today, Labor Day, starts meteorological fall. Wait, what? Well, meteorologist group the seasons into months (summer was June, July, & August) which makes it easier for record keeping. Today will be a few degrees warmer in most spots with some sun early then some showers developing in the afternoon/evening as a warm front slides through. Tuesday looks great for the kids/teachers going back to school. It’ll be nice picture taking weather with warm temps as a ridge of high pressure bumps in and brings us some sun. Showers develop overnight and stick around early Wednesday from a cold front passing though will give way to clear skies and another nice day for Thursday as another area of high pressure moves in. It’ll stay sunny Friday too.

Updated 4 months ago

From the WABI-TV5 & CW Forecast Center:

The ridge of high pressure that brought the sunny and pleasant conditions to all of New England the past couple of days will slowly slip off to our east Saturday. Both Sun & Scattered Showers this Weekend

Chris Ewing

Updated 4 months ago

From the WABI-TV5 & CW Forecast Center:

High pressure currently centered just to our west is producing sunny skies all across New England today. High temps in our area this afternoon will range from the upper 60s across the mountains to the low and mid 70s elsewhere. The ridge of high pressure will produce partly sunny skies across Maine Saturday, with high temps ranging from the low to mid 70s. On Sunday an approaching front will likely kick off some scattered showers later in the day and at night, with the bulk of the showers falling over northern parts of the state. The front will likely bring variably cloudy skies along with more scattered showers Monday as it stalls across Northern New England. A southwest breeze Sunday and Monday will usher a more humid airmass into our region and that means any pop-up showers that do develop might contain some heavy downpours.
