Brighter & Drier Today, Nice Stretch Ahead

Todd Simcox

Updated 3 months ago

From the TV 5 Forecast Center:

Drier and brighter weather on tap for today.  The cold front that brought us all the rain yesterday continues to move away from the region and skies will continue to brighten from west to east across the state this afternoon. High temperatures will reach the mid-70s to low 80s this afternoon. We may see a few isolated showers popping up this afternoon as an upper level disturbance approaches from the north and west however the chances look very minimal so most locales will likely stay dry. Less humid air will gradually move in during the day as well making for a more comfortable feel to the air by later in the day. Skies be clear to partly cloudy tonight and we’ll have much better sleeping weather in place as the less humid, more comfortable continues to move in. Temperatures will drop back to the low to mid-50s for nighttime lows.

Rain & T’storms Today, Drier Weather Coming Thursday

Todd Simcox

Updated 3 months ago

From the TV 5 Forecast Center:

Low pressure is forecast to pass to our west/northwest today slowly pushing a cold front across the state. This cold front will bring us periods of rain and scattered thunderstorms on its way through with the potential for some of the rain to fall very heavily at times. With the threat of heavy downpours still in the forecast, the National Weather Service continues the Flash Flood Watch for the entire state through tonight. Areas that do see the heavy downpours could pick up a quick 1-2” maybe 2.5” of rain in a short amount of time resulting in flash flooding especially in poor drainage areas. With plenty of clouds and rain in the forecast today, temperatures will be a bit cooler with highs mainly in the low to mid-70s this afternoon. The rain will taper to scattered showers from west to east during the night tonight with some partial clearing late as the cold front moves to our east.

Showers & T’Storms Through Today

Chris Ewing

Updated 3 months ago

From the WABI-TV5 & CW Forecast Center:

A storm system both at the surface and aloft moving northeast from the Great Lakes Region into southern Ontario will keep New England humid and wet today. A southerly wind will continue to pull a very tropical airmass up the Eastern Seaboard today causing periodic showers and thunderstorms to continue throughout our region right into tonight. A slowly moving cold front associated with the storm to our west will enhance the rain showers across Maine today and that could lead to localized flash flooding in any of the heavier downpours. Total rainfall will generally range from 1 to 3″ across our area by the time the front exits the coastline later tonight which will bring an end to the heavier showers. A few spots may pick-up over 3″ if a heavier shower sits on top of the region for a few hours.

Showers & Humid Today, Wet Wednesday

Todd Simcox

Updated 3 months ago

From the TV 5 Forecast Center:

Low pressure over the eastern Great Lakes will continue slowly drift eastward towards New England today, drawing moisture northward into the region giving us the chance for some scattered showers and a few thunderstorms today especially later this afternoon and evening. There will be lots of moisture available in the atmosphere so any showers and thunderstorms could have very heavy downpours. Areas that do see the heavy downpours could pick up a quick 1″-2” maybe 2.5” of rain in a short amount of time resulting in flash flooding especially in poor drainage areas.  With more clouds and some scattered showers in the forecast, temperatures will be cooler with highs in the 70s to near 80° this afternoon, coolest along the coast with an onshore wind. Showers will continue through the night tonight along with the chance for a few thunderstorms as a cold front approaches the region. It will be a warm and humid night with low temperatures staying in the 60s to near 70°.

Humid & Showery Early This Week

We’ll see some showers and the possibility for a couple of thunderstorms early this morning as a trough of low pressure moves through the area. Morning showers will give way to clearing skies for the afternoon and evening. Highs inland will be in the low 80s while high along the coast will make it into the mid 70s. Tuesday will start out dry, but as a cold front approaches we’ll see increasing clouds and then showers developing Tuesday night. Wednesday looks rainy for most of the day. By Thursday things will clear out as an area of high pressure moves in. Its looks nice Friday too. The weekend is also looking fantastic as of right now, with plenty of sunshine in the (early) forecast.

Showers Move in Late Sunday and Stick Around for Most of the Week

Jessica Conley

Updated 3 months ago

Tonight won’t be quite as cool with lows in the mid to upper 50s. Tomorrow is when the humidity returns and some showers move in late in the day. Monday and Tuesday look quite showery too as a cold front moves through the region. Models are still not agreeing on the timing of the frontal passage for Wednesday or Thursday. I’m thinking we’ll see some showers still lingering for Wednesday but will clear out as we head into Thursday.

Abundant Sunshine Today & Saturday, Humidity Returns Sunday

Todd Simcox

Updated 3 months ago

From the TV 5 Forecast Center:

High pressure will dominate our forecast for the next couple of days. There are some scattered high thin clouds from Bangor south to the coastline filtering the sunshine this morning. These clouds are associated with a stalled out front located south and east of New England. The front will continue to slowly drift southward away from New England which in turn will take the clouds with it this morning and allow sunshine to prevail. We’ll see lots of sunshine across the state today with highs in the mid-70s to low 80s this afternoon. Skies will be clear tonight with lows dropping to the mid-40s to mid-50s from north to south across the state.

Nice Friday & Saturday, Showers Return Sunday PM

Jessica Conley

Updated 3 months ago

It looks like another nice and sunny day for our Friday as high pressure moves in and sticks with us through tomorrow. Highs both days will be at or slightly above seasonable levels with the coolest temperatures along the coast. Sunday is when the humidity returns and some showers move in late in the day. Monday and Tuesday look quite showery, with a steady rain moving in Tuesday night as a low approaches the region.
An interesting note from the National Weather Service in Caribou: This is the wettest start to July since records began being kept. Not surprising considering the amount of rain we saw from Arthur. We’ve actually already reached and surpassed our average monthly rainfall total in Bangor. Our average for July is 3.46″. We are currently at 3.70″.

One More Muggy Day Ahead

Chris Ewing

Updated 4 months ago

From the WABI-TV5 & CW Forecast Center:

An approaching cold front and a disturbance aloft moving northward into southern Canada just to the west of New England will combine to bring scattered showers and thundershowers to parts of Maine tonight. A few of the hit and miss storms tonight might be on the strong side and contain a gusty breeze along with a heavy downpour, with the most numerous storms being found across northern and western parts of our region. Low temps tonight will hold in the 60s and patchy fog will develop, especially along the coastline.
