Scattered Showers & T’storms Possible This Afternoon, Shower Chances Continue Thursday

Todd Simcox

Updated 1 month ago

From the TV 5 Forecast Center:

With a slow moving cold front in the vicinity and an upper level disturbance forecast to come through the state this afternoon, we’ll continue to see scattered showers and thunderstorms for the remainder of the daylight hours with the best chances over areas south of Greenville and Millinocket. Areas further north will see a brighter and slightly drier day. Less humid air will gradually move in during the day today so expect a more comfortable feel to the air by later this afternoon and evening. With more clouds around today than we have seen the past few days, temperatures will be slightly cooler with highs in the mid-70s to around 80° this afternoon. Any leftover showers will wind down early tonight and skies will turn partly cloudy. With the drier air in place, we’ll see a cooler, more comfortable night tonight with temperatures dropping to the low to mid-50s in most spots and some upper 40s in spots up north for nighttime lows.

An upper level trough and surface cold front will continue pushing towards the state this afternoon. Skies will turn partly sunny as the afternoon progresses and scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop over northern and western areas early-mid afternoon then spread southward across the rest of the state as the afternoon wears on. Severe thunderstorms are not expected but any thunderstorms that do develop could have frequent lightning and heavy downpours. High temperatures will range from the mid-70s to low 80s this afternoon. Showers and thunderstorms will continue into the night tonight as the front crosses the state. We’ll see more fog developing during the night too.

Sun, Showers, & Storms Through the Work Week

Jessica Conley

Updated 1 month ago

A cold front approaches the area today so we’ll be able to see a mix of sun and clouds to start before more showers and thunderstorms develop in the afternoon and evening. The front stalls over the state on Wednesday so there will be a possibility for a few scattered showers lingering around especially over areas closer to the coast. There will be drier air behind the front for Thursday. High pressure starts to try to build in on Thursday, but an upper level trough will bring us the possibility for a couple of afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms. Friday will be similar with a few isolated showers and thunderstorms popping up again in the afternoon and evening. Finally, by this weekend, an area of high pressure moves in and things will be looking great with mostly sunny skies for both Saturday and Sunday and high temperatures right around normal.

Unsettled Pattern For Much Of This Week

Todd Simcox

Updated 1 month ago

From the TV 5 Forecast Center:

Showers and thunderstorms that were moving across parts of Oxford, Franklin and Piscataquis Counties earlier this morning have weakened and moved into northern Penosbcot and eastern Aroostook counties as of lunchtime.  These showers will continue moving east/northeastward out of the state early this afternoon. An upper level disturbance is forecast to move through the state giving us a chance for some scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. The showers and thunderstorms will be hit or miss so some spots may get wet and some spots may not see anything at all. Severe weather is not expected but any thunderstorms that develop could have heavy downpours with them. Otherwise, we’ll see varying amounts of clouds and sunshine today with highs in the mid-70s to around 80°. Shower activity will diminish tonight and we’ll see partly cloudy skies with some patchy fog developing especially in areas that see showers today. Nighttime temperatures will range from the mid-50s to around 60° for lows.

Clouds, Showers, and T’Storms for the First Half of the Week

Jessica Conley

Updated 2 months ago

The work week starts out a little gray with partly to mostly cloudy skies around today as a trough of low pressure stays in the area. It will bring us some scattered showers and possibly some thunderstorms during the day. We’ll see a bit more sunshine to start the day on Tuesday as the trough moves out, but by Tuesday afternoon a cold front moves in and bring us some scattered showers and thunderstorms again. The trough takes its time moving through the area Wednesday so we’ll see more scattered showers and thunderstorms. Looks like things improve a bit for Thursday and Friday.

Kind of a repeating forecast with the current weather pattern. The next several days feature some sun with an increased chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon.

The rest of the weekend will be unsettled with the chance for showers and thunderstorms tonight and tomorrow. We’ll have more clouds around as well. Right now Monday is looking partly cloudy with showers likely and thunderstorms possible, especially in the afternoon and evening, as a low pressure system moves through the region. Partly sunny for Tuesday as a trough of low pressure brings some clouds to the region. On Wednesday a cold front crosses the region and brings the chance for scattered showers during the day and evening. Thursday looks to be much better with mainly sunny skies behind the front.

Partly Cloudy, with Hit and Miss Showers and Storms this Weekend

Chris Ewing

Updated 2 months ago

From the WABI-TV5 & CW Forecast Center:

Skies today and tomorrow will feature a mixture of clouds and sun along with some scattered showers and storms as the weather pattern across our region will remain status quo. The pattern continues to feature a storm in the upper levels of the atmosphere centered north of the Great Lakes Region. The storm aloft to our northwest will continue to periodically pull little bundles of energy through New England and each time a bundle of energy slips through Maine a few hit and miss showers and thundershowers will develop across our area, but otherwise the skies will remain partly cloudy.  High temps both Saturday and Sunday will range from the mid 70s to low 80s across the Pine Tree State.

A ridge of high pressure is in the area today and will bring mostly sunny skies. Highs will make it into the upper 70s and low 80s. Saturday and Sunday become unsettled again with highs dropping a couple of degrees. We’ll have more clouds around this weekend as well. It looks like the slight chance for a few isolated showers or thunderstorms Saturday then I think we’ll stay dry for Sunday. Right now Monday is looking cloudy with showers likely and thunderstorms possible, as a low pressure system moves through the region. Partly sunny for Tuesday as a trough of low pressure brings some clouds to the region.

Both Sun & Scattered Showers Thursday

Chris Ewing

Updated 2 months ago

From the WABI-TV5 & CW Forecast Center:

The overall weather pattern across the Northeastern United States and southeastern Canada will not change much tonight and tomorrow. The storm in the upper levels of the atmosphere currently located just north of the Great Lakes and its associated pool of colder than normal air aloft will continue to keep the conditions a bit unsettled across New England Thursday. A trough swinging around the upper low to our west will bring some hit and miss showers and thundershowers to Maine tomorrow, with the bulk of the showers and storms falling over western and northern parts of Maine. Between the hit and miss showers tomorrow the skies across our region will average partly sunny and the temps will range from the low 70s to around 80.

Sun & Clouds Today with the Chance for a Few Late Day Showers

Jessica Conley

Updated 2 months ago

We’ll see a mix of sun and clouds today after some morning fog. There is a trough of low pressure that extends into our area that will bring the chance for some afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms to the region. The best chance for these will be in northern and western areas, in the mountains and higher elevations. For tomorrow, much of the same as another trough moves into the region. Highs tomorrow will make it a few degrees warmer but the chance for some isolated showers and thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon and evening remains.

Partly Sunny, With a Few Scattered Showers the next Few Days

Chris Ewing

Updated 2 months ago

From the WABI-TV5 & CW Forecast Center:

Skies turned partly sunny today as the storm and cold front that brought the showers and thunderstorms to Maine Sunday and Monday continued to move north and east of New England.  Skies tonight will be partly to mostly clear as drier air continues to spill into our region and by dawn temps will be running several degrees below normal as temps range from the upper 40s to mid 50s. Over the next few days a storm in the upper levels of the atmosphere will remain parked just to the north of the Great Lakes Region and that will likely allow a few hit and miss showers and storms to dot our region each of the next few afternoons, otherwise the skies will run partly sunny Wednesday and Thursday. Across Maine the best shot of seeing the brief pop-up showers and storms the next couple of days will be across the north and mountains. Temps the next few days will range from low 70s to very low 80s, which is just a bit below normal.

Drier & Less Humid Today

Chris Ewing

Updated 2 months ago

From the WABI-TV5 & CW Forecast Center:

Somewhat drier air will gradually build into the Northeast today as the surface low continues to lift up into southeastern Canada. We will likely see more in the way of sunshine today and Wednesday as the surface storm continues to ride off to our northeast, but a storm in the upper levels of the atmosphere will likely remain parked near the Great Lakes Region and that will likely allow a few hit and miss showers and storms to dot our region during the middle of the workweek. A bit more sun the next few afternoons will allow the temps today and Wednesday to range from the mid 70s to low 80s.

Showers Likely Today, Drier & Less Humid Tuesday

Todd Simcox

Updated 2 months ago

From the TV 5 Forecast Center:

The gray and gloomy weather for the remainder of the day. Low pressure will continue to push towards New England this afternoon, spreading showers and a few thunderstorms into the area from southwest to northeast across the state. This is the same batch of showers and thunderstorms that caused all of the severe weather around the Greater Boston area this morning. That being said… the showers and thunderstorms have weakened and therefore severe weather is not expected here but any thunderstorms we see could have some gusty winds and heavy downpours with them. With the clouds and showers in place, temperatures will be a bit below average today with highs only reaching the low to mid-70s for most locales. Some upper 60s are possible along the coast with a wind off the water. Showers will continue tonight, beginning to wind down from south to north across the state after midnight.
