Sadly the high school basketball tournament is almost over. We’ve seen everything from buzzer-beaters to upsets…to crazy fans! Nick Coit has more on the sights and sounds of the tournament.
While basketball games continue today at the Bangor Auditorium setting up Regional Finals tomorrow, there are also championship games being played tonight. Nick Coit has more on the Hampden Boys team.

When the tournament is over some of the players go on to play in a state-wide all-star game. It’s organized every year by McDonalds…the all-stars were named this afternoon. The top 80 players in the state will play March 10th. The games are again at Husson University.

Bill Fletcher was honored Wednesday afternoon at the Eastern Maine basketball tournament for his 26 years of service running the event.Dick Durost made the announcement.
Central High with their excellent cheering team. The Red Devils up against Bucksport. The Bucks scored 7 in the first half but 14 in the 3rd quarter. Bailey Blair working hard on the boards, they were right back in it.Central gets a nice effort from center Sam Brownell. She led the Devils with 11. They had just one bucket in the 4th quarter and just seven in the game but foul shots led them to the win. Bucksport came close could never catch up. Central wins it and the 3rd seed advances with a 34-24 win.

There are many things to love about the high school basketball tournament. For instance, while you get to enjoy a great game, you’ll enjoy some great tunes. Nick Coit spoke with Houlton Band Director Joe Fagnant about his band when they came to town this morning.
Parise Rosignol is just a sophomore but she has already scored 1000 points for Van Buren. Her father Matt is the coach and he set tournament scoring records nearly 30 years ago.Parise is on the verge of setting her own scoring records. Tim Throckmorton spoke with her after her 33 point effort last night.
Sumner coming in 16-2. Houlton was under 500 on the season.The Shires getting balanced scoring. Doug Dickison doing his part. Sumner started a bit cold. Gabe O’Brien and Tyler Martin combined for 36 points. That was more than two thirds of the output.Houlton took advantage and the young team from “The County” pulled off the big upset. Freshman Kyle Bouchard with 16. Seventh seed Houlton advances to the semifinals with a 67-52 win.
Starting Tuesday, it was Mattanawcook against third seed Calais.This one was a battle for the 32 minutes. For the Lynx Nick Haynes gets the nice feed inside and scores.Lincoln looking for the upset.Calais had the lead at the half 29-26. Joe Mitchell led the Blue Devils with 18./ But the guy that was on fire first thing this morning was Chase Vicaire.Mattanawcook with a rock solid 2nd half and Vicaire had the hot hand with 31 points. The Lynx with the upset win 62-51.
