Tomorrow night, the Hampden boys basketball team will play for a Class A State Championship for the second straight year. And just like last year, it took a game-winner in the Eastern Maine final to propel them to the Gold Ball Game. Nick Coit stopped by practice this week to see if they could reenact the big shots.
One high school girls basketball team that’ll be playing for a gold ball on Saturday will be Calais. The Blue Devils have quite the winning tradition, bringing home six state titles over the last 20 years. This season, the road to the state championship game wasn’t easy.
This weekend, high school basketball teams will play for a gold ball. The Class C boys matchup will be the last official game played at the Bangor Auditorium. The Eastern Maine Champs, the Penquis Valley Patriots, are still riding high off their victory over Houlton in the regional final.
The Bangor High girls basketball team will play for its first state championship since 1982 on Saturday. Tim Throckmorton stopped by practice to see how preparation was going.

The high school basketball tournament brings a lot of different people back to Bangor every year. Nick Coit found one guy who’s been coming back since the 1950′s, saw his son and grandson play in Bangor, and was a player himself at the old Auditorium.
Lots of parents get to watch their children play at the Bangor Auditorium. But imagine having five kids who’ve played at “the Mecca!” Nick Coit has more on the Ciomei family.
The Penquis Valley boys have been led to the Eastern Maine Class C semifinals thanks to a great season from Isaiah Bess. This morning, in the quarterfinals, he scored his 1000th career point. Nick Coit was there to see it and has more with Bess.

Every year, you can expect the unexpected at the high school basketball tournament. Last night, a team from the county played spoiler to the championship hopes of one of the top squads in the state. Nick Coit witnessed the upset and has more from the Bangor Auditorium.
It’s Day Four of the high school basketball tournament at the Bangor Auditorium. It’s also one of the final days of basketball being played there. Tim Throckmorton talks a bit about when the building opened.
There are always a few upsets in the high school basketball post season. That’s why they play the games. But some top seeded teams don’t seem as though anyone can stop them.Lets check in on the defending champs from Jonesport Beals. They were up against number eight Easton. And how about those Easton Bears…. the long shot. Hunter Turner gets the bucket on the followup. He had 21.They actually led in the 2nd quarter and they kept the lead in the 2nd half.Garet Beal did all he could, He scored 38 on Monday, but somehow Easton found answers…. Logan Halvorson a freshman kept hitting bombs from the three point line. The mighty Easton Bears shocked undefeated Jonesport Beals 55-53.
