Penobscot Nation not happy

Updated 7 years ago

With the Cleveland Indians in the playoffs, a Maine Indian tribe remains upset at the team’s continued use of Chief Wahoo as its
logo.
Seven years ago, leaders of the Penobscot Nation passed a
resolution urging the team to get rid of the red-faced,
buck-toothed caricature, calling it a demeaning anachronism.
Penobscot leaders never heard back from the Cleveland front
office, and the logo is still a sore point with Donna Loring, the
Penobscot representative to the Maine Legislature.
Loring, a loyal Boston Red Sox fan, says she hopes Cleveland
will someday work with the tribe to draw up a new, respectable
replacement for the Chief Wahoo emblem.

Penobscot Valley C.C. new owner?

Updated 7 years ago

IT MAY NOT BECOME OFFICIAL FOR ANOTHER TWO WEEKS, BUT IT LOOKS AS IF THERE WILL BE A NEW OWNER OF PENOBSCOT VALLEY COUNTRY CLUB IN ORONO.
DICK AND JEFF HARRIS HAVE OFFERED A BID OF THREE MILLION DOLLARS FOR THE FACILITY. THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS HAS AGREED THAT IT IS A FAIR PRICE AND THE MEMBERSHIP WILL LIKELY APPROVE THE DEAL LATER THIS MONTH. THE GOLF COURSE IN ORONO HAS LOST MONEY AND MEMBERS SINCE THE NEW CLUBHOUSE WAS BUILT SIX YEARS AGO. MEMBERSHIP IS DOWN TO 222 GOLFERS… NOT NEARLY ENOUGH TO SUSTAIN THE COURSE.
THE HARRIS BROTHERS AND OTHERS WALKED THE COURSE TODAY AND TALKED ABOUT WAYS TO RECONDITION THE COURSE.
THE HARRIS ORGANIZATION OWNS AND HAS IMPROVED THREE OTHER COURSES IN THE SOUTHERN PART OF THE STATE.
THEY PLAN TO MAKE PVCC MORE AFORDABLE.
