THE KENDUSKEAG STREAM CANOE RACE IS A &quot:GO&quot: FOR SATURDAY. LATE FRIDAY AFTERNOON SEARCH AND RESCUE PERSONEL TOOK A CLOSE LOOK AT THE WHITEWATER AT SIX MILE FALLS AND DETERMINED THAT THEY COULD SAFELY MANAGE THE AREA. THIS IS THE AREA THAT MANY PEOPLE GATHER TO WATCH CANOES AND KAYAKS TRY TO AVOID SPILLING INTO THE WATER. MANY OFTEN DO, AND LINCOLN SEARCH AND RESCUE THINKS THEY CAN HANDLE IT ALL.
THE FINISH LINE WILL REMAIN THE SAME EXCEPT FOR BOATS WHICH COME DOWN LATE IN THE DAY. THEY MAN NEED TO EXIT THE STREAM BEHIND THE OLD POLICE STATION.
TV 5 COVERAGE WILL START AT 10:00 AM SATURDAY MORNING WITH ALL THE ACTIVITY AT SIX MILE FALLS.

DICK SCOTT A NATIVE OF ELLSWORTH HAS JUST SIGNED A THREE YEAR CONTRACT EXTENSION WITH THE TORONTO BLUE JAYS. SCOTT IS THE DIRECTOR OF PLAYER DEVELOPMENT. HE’S IN HIS SIXTH SEASON WITH TORONTO IN THAT CAPACITY. HE ACTUALLY PLAYED THREE GAMES WITH THE OAKLAND A’S IN 1989 AND HAS ALSO MANAGED AT THE MINOR LEAGUE LEVEL.

SHE WILL TAKE OVER THE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PROGRAM AT DUKE UNIVERSITY… JUST A MONTH AFTER SHE SIGNED A CONTRACT EXTENSION SHE LEAVES MICHIGAN STATE FOR DUKE… SHE HAD JUST RECEIVED A 100,000 DOLLAR RAISE FOR THE SPARTANS TWO YEARS’ AFTER SHE HAD HER TEAM IN THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME.

THE CONFERENCE HAS MANY PROGRAMS WHICH COMPETE AGAINST U-MAINE IN A NUMBER OF SPORTS.

KEELING WAS A BASKETBALL COACH OF THE BLACK BEARS FOR 8 YEARS IN THE LATE 80′s AND EARLY 90′s.

KATIE PAGE OF PALMYRA IS ONE STEP CLOSER TO HER DREAM OF BECOMING A U.S. OLYMPIAN. SHE WON THE OLYMPIC WEIGHTLIFTING COLLEGIANT NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP IN HER WEIGHT CLASS. SHE LIFTED 187 POUNDS IN THE SNATCH COMPETITION AND 209 POUNDS IN THE CLEAN AND JERK.
PAGE WAS AN OUTSTANDING TRACK ATHLETE AT MAINE AND BEFORE THAT NOKOMIS HIGH SCHOOL. SHE IS NOW PURSUING POST GRADUATE STUDIES AT U.C. SANTA BARBARA IN CALIFORNIA. SHE WILL HOPE TO MOVE UP IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS BY THE TIME THE OLYMPIC TRIALS COME AROUND NEXT YEAR IN ATLANTA.

TIS THE SEASON FOR THE SPEEDWAY 95 STOCK CAR SHOW AT THE AIRPORT MALL IN BANGOR. BIG CARS LIKE THE SPORTSMAN AND THE LIMITED, TO THE SMALLER ONES LIKE SPORT FOURS AND TRUCKS ALL ON DISPLAY.
THE DRIVERS A BIT FRUSTRATED HEARING THAT THE TRACK WON’T OPEN NEXT WEEKEND AS SCHEDULED. THE SNOW AND WET WEATHER WILL PUSH RACING BACK A WEEK.
IT WON’T TAKE TOO LONG FOR THE CARS TO LOOK A BIT DIFFERENT FROM THIS….. A FEW DENTS AND A LITTLE PAINT FROM OTHER CARS….. BUT THAT’S RACING AND THAT’S WHAT THIS GROUP WANTS TO BE DOING AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

MARK LeTENDRE HAS TESTIFIED BEFORE A FEDERAL GRAND JURY LOOKING INTO STEROID USE IN SPORTS. LeTENDRE WENT TO UMAINE AND LATER WAS THE TEAM TRAINER FOR THE SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS.

HE WAS ASKED ABOUT BARRY BONDS SIZE AS WELL AS SOME OF HIS INJURIES.

McInerney Resigns

Officially Ann McInerney has resigned her position as women’s basketball coach at Umaine.

McInerney was introduced as the University of Maine’s women’s basketball coach in May of 2005, after a 6 years at Merrimack College. She became the ninth head coach in Maine women’s basketball history.
