SKOWHEGAN FIELD HOCKEY IS NOTHING SHORT OF AMAZING. THE PROGRAM HAS PUT TOGETHER A STRING OF SIX STRAIGHT STATE TITLES. PAULA DOUGHTY HAS COACHED AN AMAZING GROUP OF ATHLETES OVER THE YEARS. SINCE 1990, 20 PLAYERS HAVE NOW RECEIVED SCHOLARSHIP.
TWO MORE SIGNED SCHOLARSHIP OFFERS TO ATTEND COLLEGE.
ZARA SAYDJARI OFFICIALLY SIGNED TO JOIN THE MICHIGAN FIELD HOCKEY PROGRAM WHICH WON THE 2001 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.
AND TEAMMATE COURTNEY VEINOTTE INKED HER OFFICIAL LETTER TO ATTEND MAINE.
SAYDJARI DIDN’T PLAY HER SENIOR SEASON AFTER TEARING UP HER KNEE BUT SHOULD BE READY TO GO IN THE FALL.
BOTH PLAYERS CREDITED GREAT COACHING STARTING WITH YOUTH PROGRAMS IN SKOWHEGAN.

FOOTBALL PLAYERS ACCEPTING SCHOLARSHIPS AS WELL. WE TOLD YOU YESTERDAY ABOUT BANGOR LINEMAN ROB SECCARECCIA AND HIS PLANS TO BECOME A BLACK BEAR.
FIVE OTHER FOOTBALL PLAYERS GATHERED AT PORTLAND HIGH SCHOOL TO SIGN WITH MAINE….. FITZPATRICK WINNER JARED TURCOTTE OF LEWISTON AS WELL AS PORTLAND QUARTERBACK CHRIS TREISTER.
THREE OTHERS WILL BE PREFERRED WALKONS AT MAINE.
GABE HINDS OF CONY, EAMON WHITE FROM PORTLAND AND RAIBONNE CHARLES FROM WINDHAM.
THE ANNOUNCED RECRUITING CLASS FOR UMAINE FOOTBALL IS 17 PLAYERS.

UMAINE ASSISTANT FOOTBALL COACH BOBBY WILDER IS A FINALIST FOR THE FOOTBALL COACHING JOB AT OLD DOMINION UNIVERSITY AND HAS INTERVIEWED FOR THE POST ACCORDING TO A VIRGINIA NEWSPAPER.

OLD DOMINION IS JUST STARTING FOOTBALL AND WON’T START WITH A VARSITY TEAM UNTIL 2008.

BEN BISHOP DID NOT PRACTICE MONDAY WITH THE UMAINE HOCKEY TEAM. THE SOPHOMORE GOALIE PULLED A GROIN MUSCLE IN SATURDAY NIGHTS GAME AT NEW HAMPSHIRE.


MAINE HAS TUESDAY OFF AND SO THE NEXT OPPORTUNITY TO TEST IT WILL BE WEDNESDAY.

MAINE’S BACKBONE IN NET HAD TO BE HELPED OFF THE ICE. BEN BISHOP GOT KNOCKED DOWN IT STARTED A MINI-BRAWL AND AFTER ALL SAID AND DONE BISHOP LEFT WITH AN INJURY. HE DIDN’T RETURN AND THAT LEFT DAVE WILSON TO HOLD THE FORT.

Maine defeated top-ranked New Hampshire 4-2 in a sold-out Verizon Wireless Arena Friday. With 5:35 remaining, the Black Bears took their first lead of the night on a power-play goal from Matt Duffy. The goal was the only power play tally of the night and was scored just 15 seconds into the one-man advantage.

THE NEW UMAINE FIELD HOCKEY COACH IS JOSETTE BABINEAU. THE LAST THREE YEARS SHE’S BEEN AN ASSISTANT COACH AT CORNELL. BEFORE THAT THE NEW BRUNSWICK NATIVE WORKED WITH VARIOUS NATIONAL YOUTH TEAMS IN CANADA AND WAS HERSELF THE CANADIAN UNIVERSITY PLAYER OF THE YEAR IN 1993.

WHEN FRESHMAN MOVE IN TO THE UMAINE DORMS THIS FALL, JARED TURCOTTE OF LEWISTON WILL BE AMONG THEM.
THE STAR RUNNING BACK FOR THE BLUE DEVILS HAS VERBALLY COMMITTED TO PLAY FOR THE BLACKBEARS.
TURCOTTE TOLD US TODAY THAT HE HAS INFORMED THE UMAINE COACHING STAFF OF HIS DECISION AND WILL SIGN HIS NATIONAL LETTER OF INTENT NEXT WEDNESDAY.
TURCOTTE RUSHED FOR MORE THAN 1800 YARDS AND SCORED 23 TOUCHDOWNS AND IS THE WINNER OF FITZPATRICK AWARD.

COOPER HURT HER ANKLE LAST MONTH AND IT TURNED OUT TO BE MORE THAN A SPRAIN. HER DAD BRUCE TOLD US TODAY THAT SHE HAS A BONE BRUISE, BUT AN MRI YESTERDAY SHOWED NO OTHER DAMAGE.
THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT COOPER PARTICIPATED IN PRE-GAME WARMUPS BEFORE LAST NIGHTS GAME.
