LOUIS AND 23 SECONDS IN…IT WAS PAYDIRT FOR THE BLACKBEARS…KEITH JOHNSONMADE IT1-0, THEN JOSH SOARES SCORED A FEW MINUTES LATER 2-0 MAINE THREE AND HALF MINUTES INTO THE GAME… THE SPARTANS WENT ONTO SCORE FOUR GOALS TO WIN 4-2 DESPITE 29 SAVES FROM BEN BISHOP. THE CAMPAIGN ENDS AT 23-15-2.

UMAINE HOCKEY COACH TIM WHITEHEAD HAS BEEN NAMED ONE OF 11 FINALISTS FOR THE SPENCER PENROSE AWARD GIVEN TO THE DIVISION ONE HOCKEY COACH OF THE YEAR.
WHITEHEAD KNOWS THAT IT’S ALSO AN AWARD FOR THE PROGRAM AND HE ALSO GIVES CREDIT TO HIS ASSISTANT COACHES AND HIS SECRETARY.
IT’S THE 6th TIME HE’S BEEN A FINALIST FOR THE AWARD WHICH HE WON IN 2002.
MAINE PLAYS IN THE FROZEN FOUR NEXT THURSDAY.

KEVIN CLARKE OF FRYEBURG LOVES SPEED, BE IT SKIING, CARS OR MOTORCROSS. HIS LOVE AFFAIR WILL LAND HIM IN EUROPE RACING IN THE DUNLOP DRIVERS CUP WORLD FINALS. THE FRYEBURG ACADEMY SKI COACH WILL TEAM UP WITH FIVE OTHER AMERICANS TO RACE IN A grueling 10-day driving challenge from Germany to Spain. THE Dunlop Drivers Cup includes on-track racing, autocross, off-road sport utility, off-road all-terrain vehicle and motocross events. THE EVENT TAKES PLACE IN THE MIDDLE OF APRIL.

Good News for Presque Isle…

The Nordic Heritage Center in Presque Isle will host its largest event ever in March of 2009.
It was announced today that the 2009 Junior Olympic Cross Country championships will be held in the county with a huge economic boost expected for the area.
The junior olympics are a stepping stone to the us national team.
The event will more than double the amount of athletes at the biathlon junior world championships with at least 400 athletes expected for the event.
The Nordic Heritage center has hosted several major events including the Junior world biathlon championships.
The event, which has been held previously held at Black mountain in Maine, is for 14-19 year olds. And skiers from across the state will be competing.

ASHLEY HILTON IS ONE OF THE 20 BEST BASKETBALL PLAYERS IN DIVISION TWO IN THE U.S. HILTON FROM SKOWHEGAN HAS BEEN NAMED AN ALL AMERICAN LISTED ON THE FOURTH TEAM.
HILTON PLAYED HER HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL AT SKOWHEGAN AND JUST FINISHED HER COLLEGE CAREER AT NEW HAVEN WITH OVER 16 HUNDRED CAREER POINTS AND OVER 800 REBOUNDS.
THIS SEASON ALONE HILTON SCORED 576 POINTS.
EARLIER THIS MONTH ASHLEY WAS NAMED HONORABLE MENTION KODAK DIVISION TWO ALL AMERICA.

STEPHANIE LAMANTEER DID IT AGAIN THIS YEAR. THE 15 YEAR OLD FROM WATERVILLERAISED A TOTAL OF 25 HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR THE CHILDRENS MIRACLE NETWORK.
SHE DID IT AS PART OF HER PARTICIPATION IN THE BATTLE OF MAINE THIS PAST WEEKEND. IT’S ORGANIZED BY HUARDS SPORTS KARATE AND FEATURED 475 COMPETITORS AND ABOUT 12 HUNDRED SPECTATORS CAME OUT TO WATCH THE KARATE ACTION.
