TIM SYLVIA HAS BEEN RELEASED FROM HIS CONTRACT WITH THE UFC. THE TWO TIME HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMP AND AN ELLSWORTH HIGH GRAD HAD ONE FIGHT REMAINING ON THAT DEAL.

JUDSON CAKE, CHRIS PEVERADA, AND TOM MCWALTERS WENT ONE, TWO THREE ON THE GUYS SIDE…WITH CAKE’S WINNING TIME OF 15:41. ANN SAVOLISE-STANTON TOOK THE HONORS FOR THE WOMEN. HER TIME 19:47, SHE WAS FOLLOWED BY MOLLY PEVERADA AND EILIZA TIBBBITS TO ROUND OUT THE TOP THREE. PINKHAM WAS PART OF MARINE PATROL, PART TIME SHERRIFF AND INVOLVED IN THE RUNNING COMMUNITY BEFORE HE PASSED AWAY.

GEORGE RIVER WITH VIGOR AND THE HOPE THAT THE FALLS AT ROBBINS LUMBER WOULD NOT BE THEIR UNDOING….DOWNTOWN SEARSMONT IS WHERE THE RACE BEGINS…ABOUT FIVE MILES OF FLAT WATER FOR THE START THEN YOU GET INTO THE MINI CLASS 3 WHITE WATER AND IT’S A SHORT BLAST TO THE END…SIX MILES ALL TOGETHER… THE VULTURES DIDN’T SEE TOO MANY SPILLS TODAY AS THE WATER LEVEL WAS LOW, 75 CRAFT ENTERED TODAY’S RACE… Overall winner, in the kayak, fred ludwig of houlton…41:29…. Top canoe and 4th fastest overall, jeff owen and ed lindsey of orono with a time of 45:33.

THIS WILL BE A BIG WEEKEND COMING UP FOR LAUREN FORGUES. THE UMAINE SOPHOMORE MIGHT BE A LONG SHOT FOR THE US OLYMPIC TEAM THIS SUMMER,BUT THE RACEWALKER WOULD LOVE TO BE ABLE TO
QUALIFY FOR THE OLYMPIC TRIALS. SHE’LL HAVE THAT CHANCE IN OREGON THIS WEEKEND. SHE’LL RACE IN THE 20 KILOMETER EVENT….. THAT’S ABOUT 12 1/2 MILES. SHE THINKS SHE’LL BE FAST ENOUGH TO REACH THE QUALIFYING STANDARD which is an hour and 48 minutes.. A GOOD RACE COULD ALSO EARN HER A SPOT ON THIS SUMMERS U-S WORLD CUP TEAM.

THE FORMER UMAINE PLAYER WAS SUCKER PUNCHED IN THE FACE MOMENTS BEFORE A FACE OFF BY ROBIN GOMEZ. FERRARO HAS A CONCUSSION AND HAD 8 STITCHES INHIS FACE. GOMEZ HAS BEEN SUSPENDED FOR THE SEASON FOR THE PUNCH. CHARGES ARE ALSO PENDING.
