A CHANGE COULD BE COMING TO KATAHDIN HIGH SCHOOL… THE WINNINGEST COACH IN HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL COULD BE DONE. DICK BARSTOW IS CONTEMPLATING RETURNING FOR HIS 50TH YEAR.

BARSTOW TOLD US HE DID APPLY FOR HIS POSITION NEXT YEAR, BUT THEN WITHDREW THE APPLICATION. THERE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A MEETING CONCERNING HIS FUTURE WITH THE COUGARS PROGRAM ON THE NINTH, BUT THAT HAS BEEN PUSHED BACK UNTIL AUGUST.

AN UPDATE ON MIKE CUSHING. THE HARNESS DRIVER WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT A WEEK AGO AT BASS PARK. CUSHING IS STILL IN EASTERN MAINE MEDICAL CENTER IN STABLE CONDITION. CUSHING WAS THROWN FROM HIS SULKIE IN A CRASH DURING A QUALIFYING RACE. HE NEEDED RODS AND PINS PUT IN HIS LOWER BACK AFTER HE COMPRESSED HIS SPINE LANDING ON IMPACT.

DEXTER’S ADAM CRAIG WHO SPENDS HIS LIFE OUT IN OREGON TRAINING FOR THE OLYMPICS SHOULD HEAR OVER THE NEXT WEEK OR SO IF HE WILL REPRESENT THE U.S. IN BEIJING. CRAIG IS A MOUNTAIN BIKER IN THE ELITE DIVISION. OVER THE WEEKEND CRAIG FINISHED AS THE SECOND BEST AMERICAN IN THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS OVER IN ITALY. CRAIG IS BATTLING FOR ONE OF TWO SPOTS TO BE ON TEAM USA.

ANOTHER CRASH AT BANGOR RACEWAY, IT LEAVES ONE DRIVER IN THE HOSPITAL. MIKE CUSHING WAS THROWN OFF HIS SULKIE IN A QUALIFYING RACE. CUSHING UNDERWENT SURGERY ON HIS LOWER BACK, CUSHING IS LISTED IN FAIR CONDITION AT EASTERN MAINE MEDICAL CENTER AS OF THURSDAY AFTERNOON. CUSHING AND HIS WIFE CHARLENE BOTH DRIVE AT THE TRACK. A WEEK AND A HALF AGO TWO HORSES HAD TO BE PUT DOWN AFTER THEY CRASHED.

HIS CAREER WINNING PERCENTAGE JUST UNDER 80 PERCENT. HE HAS BEEN INDUCTED INTO THE NEW ENGLAND BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME.

FORMER UMAINE FOOTBALL PLAYER DAREN STONE WAS ARRESTED AND CHARGED WITH DRUNKEN DRIVING SUNDAY.

THE ARREST WAS MADE IN ATLANTA. STONE IS A BACKUP DEFENSIVE BACK FOR THE FALCONS.

HE WAS RELEASED AFTER POSTING A 15 HUNDRED DOLLAR BOND. HE’S THE 2nd FALCON ARRESTED IN THE LAST MONTH.

FORWARD BRENT SHEPHEARD WILL JOIN TRAVIS WHITE ON THE TEAM. WHITE PLAYED ON THE ECHL TEAM LAST WINTER. WHITE SCORED 19 POINTS LAST SEASON WITH THE STEELHEADS. THE TWO PLAYED THREE SEASONS TOGETHER WITH THE BLACK BEARS.
