Former NFL player in Hermon

Updated 6 years ago

DOWN THE ROAD AT HERMON MIDDLE SCHOOL THERE WAS ALSO TALK OF FOOTBALL. FORMER ATLANTA FALCON TIM GREEN, A FIRST ROUND DRAFT PICK IN 1986 WAS SKEAKING TO THE KIDS AT THE SCHOOL ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF READING.GREEN EARNED A LAW DEGREE WHEN HE WAS PLAYING IN THE NFL AND HAS WRITTEN 19 BOOKS. THE LAST THREE ARE SPORTS FICTION WRITTEN FOR THIS AGE GROUP.”I love getting out and talking with kids about the importance of books importance of reading importance of school of being a good person over the importance of sports and I think that because of the success I had as an athlete its a particularly powerful message for kids so I enjoy it I like delivering that message.”

Hermon moving forward with football.

THE HERMON HAWKS WANT A PIECE OF THE GRID IRON AND THE HERMON SCHOOL BOARD HAS AGREED TO START A HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM. JV THE NEXT COUPLE YEARS AND VARSITY IF ALL GOES WELL AFTER THAT.”we know we have a lot of kids that will benefit from football that aren’t participating in an activity in the fall.”Youth football was started six years ago in town and some last falls middle school group will be getting to the high school in the fall.Ken Frederick coached that team last year. Its amazing how many people we had last year supporting last year and we almost doubled it this year. There are a lot of people coming out of the woodwork saying we want a football team. The school will not incur the cost of the sport right now. The town council has put up 20 thousand dollars to help offset the startup cost.”Yes its good news for football excited about it at the same time we’re sensitive to the fact adding a new program during this economic climate is difficult to do.”ATHLETIC DIRECTOR PAUL SOUCY IS GRATEFUL FOR ALL THE HELP THE FOOTBALL BOOSTERS HAVE GIVEN. THE NEXT STOP IS TO HIRE A COACH AND PUT TOGETHER A JV SCHEDULE FOR THIS FALL.

Jason Bay was the only regular in Boston’s lineup, joined by players who likely will start the season at Triple-A Pawtucket. Still, the Red Sox eked out a soggy 4-3 victory over the FloridaMarlins on Saturday, getting the go-ahead run when Ryan Kalishstole third base in the eighth inning and scored on catcher MikeRabelo’s throwing error. On an afternoon when the game began after a 2-hours, 39-minuterain delay, play was called because of more rain in the bottom ofthe eighth with two on and no outs.

MARK SOCOBY HAS DECIDED TO LEAVE THE UMAINE MENS BASKETBALL TEAM. THE MOVE COMES AS A SHOCK FOR A PROGRAM THAT SEEMS TO BE MOVING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION WITH MANY TOP PLAYERS FROM MAINE.THE FORMER HOULTON AND BANGOR HIGH PLAYER HAS BEEN A MAINSTAYFOR THE BLACK BEARS SINCE HE ARRIVED ON CAMPUS AND WAS A 3rd TEAM ALL CONFERENCE PLAYER A YEAR AGO. HE PLAYED IN EVERY GAME AS A FRESHMAN AND THE LAST TWO YEARS HE’S BEEN THE TEAMS LEADING SCORER.HE JUST FINISHED HIS JUNIOR YEAR DURING WHICH HE SCORED HIS 1000th CAREER POINT.SOCOBY’S OPTIONS AT THE DIVISION ONE LEVEL WOULD SEEM TO BE LIMITED. HE HAS YET TO REDSHIRT, SO HE COULD STILL TRANSFER AND THEN PLAY ONE MORE YEAR FOR ANOTHER D-ONE TEAM.OR HE COULD PLAY AT A DIVISION THREE SCHOOL IMMEDIATELY.IF SOCOBY HAD STAYED AT MAINE HE WOULD LIKELY HAVE MOVED INTO THE TOP 10 IN CAREER SCORING IN BLACK BEAR HISTORY.
