University of Maine head football coach Jack Cosgrove has been named the 2013 American Football Coaches Association FCS Region 1 Co-Coach of the Year. Cosgrove receives the AFCA Regional recognition for the first time in his 21-year career.

The search for a new UMaine athletic director has been narrowed to three finalists.
They are Karlton Creech, a senior associate director of athletics at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, Jim Herlihy, director of athletics, recreation, and intramurals at the University of Montevallo in Alabama and, and Scott Kull, an associate athletics director for external operations at Texas Christian University.

The two time defending regional champion Messalonskee hockey team opened its season with a hard fought win over class A Bangor on Friday night. Brandon Nale scored the game winning goal.
Lawrence High junior Taylor Reynolds will be a key member of the Bulldog girls basketball team this year. She also has another sports she excels in: pool. Reynolds will compete for the World Junior Championship in South Africa next week. Nick Coit visited with Reynolds this week.
