Great Maine Bike Swap Comes to Orono

The University of Maine played host to the annual Great Maine Bike Swap Sunday.

“Everyone here has the same interest. They all love bikes. And some people want to sell bikes, some people want to buy bikes,” said Jim Rose, owner of Rose Bike in Orono and a volunteer at the event.

Body Pulled from Penobscot River Near Sandy Point

A male body was pulled from the Penobscot River in Stockton Springs Sunday, according to the Waldo County Sheriff’s Department.

Authorities received a call from a local resident who spotted what appeared to be a body around 11 AM near the Sandy Point Beach.

Hike for Homeless Brings Awareness

People filled the streets of Bangor Saturday afternoon advocating for the area homeless.

For years the annual Hike for the Homeless took place on Mt. Katahdin, now hundreds of volunteers walk through downtown Bangor to raise awareness for people with no roof over their head.

Sarah’s House Construction Ahead of Schedule with Immense Volunteer Help

“This is Sarah’s house,” says Stan Peterson, head of construction.  “We’re trying to build a place for cancer patients from greater than 35 miles away to come and stay while they’re being treated.”

Trenton Man Formally Charged With Sexually Assaulting, Stabbing Woman

James Stanton, 48, has been indicted on a gross sexual assault charge, as well as assault charges.

Former teacher and cross country coach at Tremont Consolidated School has been indicted for sex crimes against a minor more than a decade ago.

Prosecutors say Benjamin Hodgdon, 45, had sex with a 13-year-old member of the cross country team more than thirty times in 1999.

Hearse Driver Falls Asleep, Rolls Over Vehicle on I95

Police say a hearse driver fell asleep, causing a crash on Interstate 95 in Pittsfield this afternoon.

The vehicle overturned and northbound traffic was delayed while crews cleared the scene.

The driver, Michael Kelley, is from Salsbury Cove and was taken to Sabasticook Hospital in Pittsfield.

Teen Driver in Fatal Bucksport Crash Charged w/Manslaughter

Samantha Goode, the 16-year-old driver in the car accident that killed Bucksport teen Taylor Darveau, has been charged with manslaughter and aggravated driving to endanger.

Darveau, who was 15, died when Goode’s car crashed on the Bucksmills Road in October.

Police say Steven Lucas, 60, was driving the car that hit Eric Sanders last year, who was riding his bicycle on Main Street.

Two Arrested in Connection With Daytime Burglary Spree

Two men have been arrested in connection with a string of daytime burglaries.

A Plymouth homeowner called police when he found two men in his barn Tuesday morning.

25 year old James Field of Pittsfield and 18 year old Jacob Graham of Hartland were taken into custody after a search of nearby woods. Both are charged with burglary.

An Old Town man who assaulted his girlfriend has been sentenced to 8 months in prison.

Patrick Mitchell, 24, pleaded guilty Tuesday to aggravated assault for an incident in January where police say he choked and beat his girlfriend.

Residents Sound Off on Searsport Dredging Plan

Members of the public had the chance in Belfast Tuesday to sound off about the plan to dredge Searsport Harbor.

“We’ve done an environmental assessment of the dredging project, and we’ve done many different studies and tests on material to be dredged on the site that we’ll be placing material. We’ve also looked at the type of species that live in the area and would be avoided in the dredging during the winter months,” said Barbara Blumeris, Study Manager for the Army Corps of Engineers.
