A successful day one of the American Folk Festival.
Vendors, artists and musicians are pulling out all the stops for this yearly Bangor tradition. The festival is in its 13th year and plenty of people come from near and far to hear the bands, see the art and taste the food.
The American Folk Festival isn’t for a few more weeks, but you can start enjoying its music now. All you have to do is log onto Maineinternetradio.com and click on the “American Folk Festival” icon and the sounds of the Bangor tradition will play.Songs and artists from the past 11 years of the festival are available for listening. “So anybody who’s got an Internet connection around the world can check out that website and listen to 24 hours a day of folk festival music from past years. We’ve got 11 years of history of artists who have come to Bangor and we’re excited to share this music again,” said festival Executive Director, Heather McCarthy. Again, that website is www.maineinternetradio.com.
The American Folk Festival is fast approaching, and the organizers say they need more help. It takes about 800 volunteers to stage the three day festival. Right now there’s room, and a need for about 300 more volunteers. Volunteers are needed in all areas.”You get to meet people that you wouldn’t normally meet, it’s like a family reunion every year once you start volunteering chances are you’re going to become addicted to it…the people that you work with are just amazing. Not only that but you get a free T-shirt,” Denise Libby with the American Folk Festival said. To volunteer at this year’s festival, go to americanfolkfestival.com or call Denise at 992-2630.
