Don’t judge a book by its cover – a good rule, even in the grocery store.
Hannaford is selling “misfit” produce at discounted prices in some of its stores.
The Misfits is the name of a company designed to buy the less-than-perfect produce from farmers across the country and beyond.
“It’s still just as flavorful, just as nutritious. You know, there’s no reason why we should let it go to waste,” said Ryan Merone, Hannaford’s Maine produce field merchandiser.
The Misfit fruits and veggies program is currently only in Southern Maine – and stores in Rockland, Camden, and Belfast.
Merone says they hope to eventually bring the program to every store.
