Charity Provides Dresses for Girls in Need in Greater Bangor

A new charity is helping girls in the Bangor area dress to impress this holiday season.

Believe in yourself provides dresses to girls in need for free.

Founder Sam Sisakhti donated more than a dozen dresses for today’s event, teaming up with the Boys and Girls club and Bangor Housing.

Whether it’s an upcoming school dance or a Thanksgiving Day celebration, Sisakhti wants girls to walk away feeling empowered and confident.

“We’ve donated thousands of dresses across the country,” said Sisakhti. “The ultimate goal of the program is to promote positive body image among young people. You don’t have to be a zero or a two to be beautiful. Women of all sizes can be beautiful. Men can be beautiful. So I think it’s really important at a young age you teach people to love themselves.”

“I have a dance coming up. I’m really excited,” said Teeonna, an 11 year old from Eddington. “It means a lot because, well we just got done getting Thanksgiving ready and we don’t have a lot of money right now. So it would be nice to get a free dress.”

Sisakhti hopes to donate dresses to girls in need throughout our state.
