Carol Higgins-Taylor was in for this week’s Senior Watch to talk about the upcoming AARP Driver Safety Course, offered at Eastern Area Agency on Aging.
The AARP Driver Safety Class helps seniors learn the following:
Ways to navigate difficult traffic situations
About potential trouble spots for drivers
Parking lots where cars may be coming from every direction
How to protect yourself from car crime
The problem being confronted by an aggressive driver
Importance of eliminating distractions, such as eating, smoking and using a cellphone
Backing up, skidding
Ways to compensate for physical limitations of the older driver.
Aging is associated with changes in eyesight including the narrowing of peripheral vision, how to adjust your driving to allow for these changes:
Can’t see at night
Sensitivity to glare
Muscle stiffness, problem with sudden movement and lengthen response time.
Medication interaction can present problems
Eastern Area Agency on Agng is offering this course Tuesday, August 30, at 450 Essex St., Bangor, from 10:00 to 3:00. Bring your lunch.

There are no written or road tests in the class.
The cost is $15 fee for AARP members and $20 for non-members. You must bring your AARP card with you to get the discount
