Senator Bernie Sanders is applauding Maine Democrats for adopting a resolution to ensure state delegations to the party’s national convention reflect the outcome of the popular vote.
In a statement Sanders said “Maine is trying to make the Democratic Party more democratic. I hope other states follow Maine’s example. This is the kind of grassroots democracy that will help the Democratic Party grow and win elections.”
During Saturday’s state convention, the party adopted a rule change, urging the Democratic National Committee to do away with superdelegates by 2020..
Sanders won the Maine Democratic caucuses in March with 64 percent of the vote.
