A salmon processing facility in Machiasport is running again and 40 people are back on the job.
Fresh Atlantic salmon from the gulf of Maine is being processing for sale at the True North Salmon plant in the small town of Bucks Harbor.
True North is the processing arm of Cooke Aquaculture USA.
Work at the 30,000 foot facility was suspended because the harsh winter skewed harvesting schedules.
“We have consumer you know who want product from Maine, produced in a Maine processing facility and we’re trying to bring that back on and we’re gaining customers with that strategy,” says Andrew Lively, Director of Marketing for True North Salmon.
True North plans on hiring another 40 people in the coming weeks.
