An animal shelter Down East is celebrating its 30th birthday – and planning a party for everyone.

The Ark Animal Shelter in Cherryfield covers Hancock and Washington Counties.

Organizers say besides finding forever homes for the animals there, they also run one of the state’s most successful spay and neuter programs.

Monday, August 25th, they’re hosting a benefit concert with the steel pan band, “Flash in the Pans”.

It’s set for 7:30 p.m. at the Blue Hill Town Park.

There’ll also be cake and ice cream, hamburgers and hot dogs.

In case of rain, the celebration will be moved to The Blue Hill Consolidated School.
