The federal government is giving $400,000 to conserve the fish habitat in the Penobscot River.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, NOAA, selected the river as a focus area last May.

The river is the largest Atlantic salmon run in the country and the funds will increase the habitat for new fish.

NOAA says pollution and and over fishing have compromised the river has a good habitat for fish.
