More than 1200 customers lost power in Bangor, Friday. A tractor trailer hit power lines and took down a pole. It happened around 10:30 a.m. on Mt. Hope Ave.

Police say the truck was turning around in a parking lot near the Fruit Street School, hit the electric wires an snapped a nearby pole.

Mt. Hope Ave is closed between Fruit St. and Howard St.

“I saw the tractor trailer truck turning I knew he wasn’t gonna make it but might as well give him a shot but he hit the power line saw a blue light and hell broke loose from there,” says Matt Guerrette who saw it all happen.

“Anytime like that of course you want to stay in your vehicle and call 911 and wait till people arrive on scene and give you some guidance,” says Sgt. Paul Kenison with the Bangor Police Department.

Emera Maine expects power to be restore around 2:00 p.m.
