A Nokomis Regional High School music teacher accused of threatening to kill his former girlfriend and strangling her until she passed out is free on $10,000 bail.

The Kennebec County District Attorney’s Office had hoped for higher bail for 28-year-old Andrew Maderios of Pittsfield.

Maderios is charged with three counts of aggravated assault, as well as other domestic violence charges.

Prosecutors say the woman recorded two of the incidents on her cell phone.

They say at one point before choking her he said “you are going to die.”

While on bail, Maderios will not be able to be near the alleged victim. She has a protection from abuse order against him.

Prosecutors say the woman reported the incidents while he was chaperoning a school trip out of the country.

The school’s superintendent tells us Maderios is on administrative leave pending the outcome of the case.
