FairPoint union workers held what they call informational pickets outside company offices Tuesday morning.
Members of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers System Council T9 and Communications Workers of America Local 1400 are battling the telecommunications company for a new contract.
The 1,700 workers agreed to work past the expiration date, which happened in early August.
They’re scheduled to resume negotiations with FairPoint officials Wednesday and Thursday in South Portland.
Health and retirement benefits remain sticking points.
“Just want some fair bargaining at the table and a fair contract at the end,” says Matt Polo, a member of IBEW who walked outside the FairPoint office on the Odlin Road in Bangor Tuesday morning.
Union members have authorities a strike. According to their press release, the unions can now call a strike or the company can lock out workers at any time without prior notice.
FairPoint says if that happens, customer service will continues.
