Bangor Police are hosting a National Night Out gathering.

The party in the park aims to raise awareness for crime prevention.

They are hosting the event from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at Stillwater Park, along Howard Street.

There will be free food, games, and live police demonstrations.

The last two years, Second Street Park hosted the party and, police say, the event helped improve the area.

Jason McCambly, Bangor’s Community Relations Officer, said, “I think what they found is when they’re one big voice instead of a lot of individual smaller ones then things get done. I mean, one of the things they wanted to do was try to clean up Second Street Park and by having the event there two years in a row, it worked. If you go to that park now it looks so much different than it did two years ago.”

Police are also asking residents to turn their porch lights on in support of the East and West Side Neighborhood Watch groups.
