Its peak tourist season, but some people are worried that Maine’s lobster industry is in the midst of a shortage.
It’s the beginning of August, but so far this summer, lobstering has seen a bit of a slump.
Ben Pierce of the BBS Lobster Trap points out that’s compared to a six or seven year period of relatively warm conditions, and this year’s reduced supply has kept prices relatively high.
While that spike is hitting consumers, we’re told the burden isn’t too bad in Eastern and Southern Maine.
The good news is now that these waters are warming, officials say things are finally kicking into high gear.
