July is National Ice Cream Month, and it turns out Mainers are the biggest gluttons of all for the frozen treat.

So we hit up The Cool Spot in Belfast to find out what it is about ice cream that we just can’t get enough of.

“I don’t know what it is exactly, aside from the fact that it’s delicious. I know Mainers, especially, we eat more ice cream than any other state in the country, so I don’t know what it is but Mainers, we love our ice cream. Our most popular flavor is definitely our salted caramel. That’s a vanilla-based ice cream with a salted caramel swirl through it. My two personal favorites are the maple walnut with real pieces of maple in it made with Maine maple syrup, and we also have an espresso bean that is really, really good,” said Cool Spot owner Bryant Paul.

The Cool Spot’s owner tells us they go through some 300 gallons of ice cream in the month of July alone.
