UPDATE: Police ID Victims in Brewer Head-on Collision

Brewer Police Department has released the names of the victims in a head-on crash on outer North Main Street (Route 9) Tuesday.

Just after 1PM, Brewer Police and Fire Departments responded to the crash.

Authorities say two people died at the scene, four seriously injured.

Officials say 76-year-old Joseph Richard of Mexico was driving a sedan traveling west on the road when it crossed the centerline into the oncoming lane. Richard’s vehicle collided with an SUV travelling eastbound driven by 67-year-old Robert Collins of Barnstable, Massachusetts.

Police say two of Richard’s passengers 85-year-old Joseph Laplante and 86-year-old Ella Laplante, both of Rumford died at the scene. Richard and 76-year-old Marjorie Richard, also of Mexico, were also transported to to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor with critical injuries.

Police say Collins and a passenger 69-year-old Judy Collins, also of Barnstable, MA, were transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor with serious injuries.

At last check (4:50pm Wednesday), Joseph Richard and Judy Collins were listed in fair condition at the hospital, Marjorie Richard in serious condition, the condition of Robert Collins is unknown.

They say the investigation is ongoing.

Brewer Police were assisted by traffic crash reconstructionists from the Bangor Police Department.

Deputies from the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department also provided assistance.
