I’m so excited to tell you about my adventures with Arthur today but if you find my weather discussions a little too “dear diary” please proceed to the forecast at the end!
Headed to the Downeast coast today headed to Lubec via Route 1. The time was early but the storm was worth it. I was able to make it to West Quoddy Headlight with the help of a good Samaritan with a saw. The waves were powerful and the wind was strong. Saw plenty of tree and power lines down on the way out and back, even had to navigate around a few. I have tweeted lots of pictures today (@MeteoroloJess) and will add some to my Facebook page too (facebook.com/MeteorologistJessicaConley).
I loved seeing the impressive weather and also was loving being among my fellow Mainers. We’re a tough bunch, aren’t we? I stopped at the McDonalds in Machais and got to mingle with some other residents who were out braving the storm. Winds gusted as high as 71 mph on Seal Island in Machais today and many residents of our state (about 19,000 at the peak time) were without power. Rainfall totals were an impressive 3”+ for the 24 hour period in many spots too.
Arthur is continuing to move to the north and east and will take the rain with it. Winds could still be quite gusty at time overnight and it’ll even stay a bit breezy for the day tomorrow. Skies will clear out tonight and temps will be able to drop to cooler levels. Overnight lows will fall into the upper 40s and low to mid 50s.
By tomorrow we’ll see a mix of sun and clouds with highs in the mid to upper 70s and low 80s. Should be a pretty great day, especially compared to what we saw today. It’ll stay a bit breezy during the day too. Monday looks like another fairly warm one with highs ranging from the mid 70s to the mid 80s with a mostly sunny start. Clouds will move in though as the first of a few disturbances this week moves in. We’ll see some showers late Monday into the day on Tuesday.
Partly to mostly cloudy skies are expected for Tuesday with a few scattered showers possible during the day. Wednesday we’ll see another low move in that will bring some showers and thunderstorms early. Thursday, a few showers are again possible early, with skies clearing out later in the day.
