From the TV 5 Forecast Center:
We have a warm and humid afternoon ahead with scattered showers and thunderstorms expected to develop mid-late afternoon. Some of the thunderstorms could be strong to severe with heavy downpours, frequent lightning, damaging winds and hail. Temperatures will climb to the mid to upper 70s along the coast and low to mid-80s inland for highs this afternoon. Low pressure will drag a cold front towards the area tonight giving us a chance for some showers and thunderstorms tonight as well with the most numerous showers and thunderstorms falling to the north and west of Bangor.
A cold front will cross the state during the day Friday, once again bringing us some scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. Temperatures will be a bit cooler Friday but humidity levels will remain high. Temperatures will top off in the 70s to around 80° Friday afternoon. We’ll be watching Hurricane Arthur as it is currently forecast to pass just south and east of New England. The storm track is close enough that it will likely bring central and eastern Maine some steadier, heavier rain especially during the Friday night and Saturday morning timeframe. It doesn’t look like wind will be an issue with the storm but rainfall will likely average about 1”-3” in many spots by the time the storm pulls away from the state on Saturday.
Saturday will start out with rain continuing over eastern areas during the morning hours then skies are expected to clear out from west to east across the state during the afternoon. North/northwesterly winds on the backside of the storm will usher a less humid airmass into the region so we’ll get a break from the humidity and have a much more comfortable feel to the air for the weekend. Sunday will feature a mix of sun and clouds. A cold front will move in from the north and could bring some showers and thunderstorms into northern areas Sunday afternoon. Highs on Sunday will be right around 80° on average.
Rest of Today: variably cloudy and humid. Scattered showers and thunderstorms possible. Warm with highs in the mid to upper 70s along the coast and low to mid-80s inland. South wind 5-10 MPH.
Tonight: mostly cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms possible, most numerous over northern areas. Warm and humid. Lows in the 60s to near 70°. South wind 5-10 MPH.
Friday: variably cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms possible. Steadier rain arriving later in the day and at night especially for areas closer to the coast and Downeast. Humid. Highs in the 70s to near 80°. South wind 5-10 MPH.
Saturday: morning rain over eastern areas then clearing from west to east during the afternoon. Less humid. Highs in the 70s to near 80°.
Sunday: mix of sun and clouds. Scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms possible over northern areas. Highs in the mid-70s to low 80s.
