Governor’s Chocolate Bourbon Whoopie Pies Part 3 


With the 5th annual Maine Whoopie Pie Festival coming up on Saturday, Avery Sawyer from Governor’s Restaurant & Bakery came into the studio to show Wayne how to make chocolate bourbon whoopie pies.

The festival runs on Saturday, June 28th from 10:00AM – 3:00PM, rain or shine. Admission is $5, and children 12 and under get in free. Come try from the selection of over 20,000 whoopie pies!

Recipe for Chocolate Bourbon Whoopie Pies:

Yields 12 finished Whoopie Pies

3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tablespoon baking soda
1 cup vegetable oil
2 cups sugar
2 large eggs
2 cups water
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line two baking pans with parchment paper. In the bowl
of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, mix together flour, salt, cocoa
powder, sugar and baking soda. When mixed, add oil eggs, water, and vanilla. Beat until
well combined.

Using a 1-ounce ice cream scoop, place cookies onto lined baking pans, 12 per pan. Bake
for 10-12 minutes. Remove to a rack to cool. Repeat with remaining batter.

4 cups confectionary sugar
4 tablespoons shortening
¾ cup cocoa powder
5.5 tablespoons hot fudge topping
1/2 cup bourbon

In a electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment combine sugar, shortening and
cocoa powder. Mix in hot fudge topping and bourbon until creamy.

To Assemble:
Place a scoop of filling between two of the cooled cakes
