Bridge clubs gathered in Bangor to play several hands of the game for the Longest Day of the year.

The Longest Day Marathon Bridge Players hope to honor those fighting Alzheimer’s.

The Longest Day is a National campaign working to raise awareness and funds in the fight against the disease.

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, more than 5-million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s including 37,000 here in Maine.

Bridge Players say their charity game service is two-fold.

“Just one of the things some of the experts recommend to keep the mind active, explains Ginger Dewing. “So it’s one of the ways to keep on top of things and increase memory.”

“And it’s a form of exercise to the brain,” adds player Don Murray.

The groups raised around $4,000 at today’s event.
