AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — John Tuttle has been declared the winner in the close Democratic primary for the state Senate seat in York County after a recount.
Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap Tuttle received 844 votes over Andrea Boland’s 822 votes in the Senate District 33 recount on Thursday. Tuttle led Boland at the conclusion of the June 10 primary.
In the recount on Wednesday for the Democratic primary for House District 50, which encompasses part of Brunswick, Ralph Tucker was declared the winner over Jacqueline Sartoris. Tucker received 442 votes and Sartoris 432.
Maine candidates who appear to have lost can seek a recount within five days of the election. Candidates’ teams count the ballots and are supervised by the secretary of state at the department of public safety headquarters in Augusta.
