Ellsworth Man Shot in Standoff Faces Federal Charges

An Ellsworth man who was shot by police during a standoff earlier this month is now facing federal charges.

50-year-old Jeffery Barnard was released from the hospital this week and arrested.

Lt. Harold Page of the Ellsworth Police Department says Barnard was taken from the Hancock County Jail to Bangor Friday morning.

He’s charged with felony possesion of a firearm.

Police say Barnard and his wife barricaded themselves in a camper at a property on Route 179.

The standoff ended when Barnard was shot by police.

We’re told a dispute between the property owner and the Barnards sparked the standoff.
