The summer Lunch Program will be starting next week in the Bangor/Brewer area.
Kids 18 and under will be able to get a free lunch at one of five locations.
The event is sponsored by the Good Shepherd Food Bank.
They’ve collaborated with other non-profits in the area to turn free lunch into an educational experience for kids through different activities.
“What were trying to do now is minimize this huge gap that is present during the summer months and the effects are there when children don’t have the nutritious food over the summer,” explains Melissa Huston with the Good Shepherd Food Bank.
“Not every kid can afford summer camp so this is a good 2-hour chunk where they get some free food, hang out with their friends and the volunteers really get something from it, too,” adds JoAnn Bourque with Bangor Housing Authority.
