Another protest Monday against a proposed East-West corridor in Maine.
A Dover-Foxcroft group picketed all day in front of Cianbro’s headquarters in Pittsfield.
The group “Friends of the Piscataquis Valley” say they want to show their disapproval of the firm’s continued commitment to the project.
Cianbro officials were aware of the protest.
They say everyone has the right to their own opinion.
“Many of us who are active are homesteaders, gardeners, farmers. We love our region and we don’t want it dug up for foreign companies to transport whatever it is they plan on transporting,” said one of the protesters Sidney Mitchell.
“If you look at the investments we’ve made just recently in Brewer, and the jobs that have been created and the projects that we’ve built, I think the people will understand that we’re looking out for the betterment of the whole and we believe this highway will create a tax base that will provide for the people of Maine,” said Andi Vigue, president of Cianbro.
Cianbro’s president says they are at the preliminary stage of final development for the project.
