Update: Howland Man Shot by Trooper in “Fair” Condition

The condition of a Howland man, shot by a Maine State Trooper after a confrontation Friday, is improving.

An Eastern Maine Medical Center Nursing Supervisor says 36-year-old Dale Saucier is conscious and alert.

She described his condition as “fair.”

Officer Benjamin Campbell responded to a well-being check at Saucier’s home just before midnight Friday.

We aren’t sure what caused Campbell to fire his weapon.

He was not injured.

Police say Saucier had emergency surgery Friday.

Campbell is on administrative leave, which is standard procedure.

The Maine Attorney General’s Office is investigating, along with State Police.
