Maine Cancels Liquor Marketing Contract Award

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — Maine has canceled its contract award for the marketing of its state liquor operation and will ask for new proposals.

In a letter to the Gardiner-based Pine State Trading Co., the Bureau of Alcohol Beverage and Lottery Operation says the award was being rescinded because the company’s application included inaccurate information regarding “the extent of its trade marketing activities in New Hampshire.”

The bureau plans to issue a new request for proposals for the contract.

Pine State Trading Co. won a separate contract for liquor administration and distribution, but that won’t be impacted by this decision.

CEO Nick Alberding says the company made a numerical error on its bid regarding its market share in New Hampshire. He says it’s disappointed, but respects the state’s decision and will submit another bid.
