A helicopter crew was called in to assist a hiker from Baxter State Park yesterday afternoon.
Park officials say that a 53 year old hiker was headed in to the area of Wassataquoik lean to’s when she became injured.
Her companion went to get help.
Rangers say the woman had severly injured her ankle, so much so that she was not able to walk.
After evaluating the scene, officials chose to use the Maine Forest Service helicopter to conduct a short haul rescue to bring her to safety.
Park officials warn that slips and falls are common in the park, and remind those visiting to wear footwear made for the remote rugged wilderness terrain.
