A Ripley man was killed in a crash involving a car and a dirt bike in Dexter Saturday night.

Dexter police say 19 year old John Russell was operating a dirt bike traveling south on Route 23 around 10:00 PM when it veered into the northbound lane and struck a car head on.

Russell died at the scene.

Two female passengers of the car suffered non-life-threatening injuries. They were treated and released from Mayo Regional Hospital.

The male driver of the car was not injured. All the occupants of the car are from Garland.

A reconstruction team has been working the scene to help determine the exact cause.

We’re told Russell was wearing a helmet but did not have a light on his bike.

As sad as this is this guy has been riding this strip of road on this dirt bike for a good week or so. We’ve been watching and listening to him and said last weekend it was going to be an accident waiting to happen soon. He has had close calls with our dogs, pulling into our driveway avoiding cars coming, riding wheelies down the road, etc…Sad to see others involved with him as well. I hate to see it come to this when it could have been avoided all together….

Did you do your part and report it? Or did you talk to the kid riding the dirt bike? Will have to wait for the reconstruction teams results before forming an opinion. At any rate, loss of life is very sad for this young mans family. Condolences and prayers go out to them.

He was under the influence when he got into the accident. It’s too bad it happened I know him and those in the car. It’s too bad those in the car had to go through this, and its also too bad he wasn’t caught doing this before it come to this. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families involved.
