BANGOR, Maine (AP) — A former Maine special education teacher charged with sexually exploiting two boys plans on pleading guilty.
The Kennebec Journal reports that a lawyer for Patrik Ian Arsenault told a judge in U.S. District Court in Bangor on Wednesday his client plans to plea and a trial will not be necessary.
That statement followed a hearing at which the judge found the 27-year-old Arsenault, of Norridgewock, mentally competent to consult with his attorney, stand trial and accept the consequences of sentencing.
Prosecutors say Arsenault faces six charges and it’s unclear if he will plead guilty to all of them.
Arsenault, a former special education teacher in Wayne, is charged with sexually assaulting two Clinton boys, ages 6 and 7, at a Belgrade camp. The alleged victims were not his students.
