Body of Olympic Snowboarder’s Father Found in Camden Lake

The father of Olympic Snowboarder Seth Wescott died, after wardens say he suffered a medical emergency and fell into Megunticook Lake in Camden.

According to authorities, 71-year-old James Wescott fell into the water while rowing with a friend Tuesday morning.

James Wescott spent 25 years as coach of Colby College’s track and field.

During that time, his teams rewrote 28 of 32 records, according to the Waterville school. He helped 11 athletes earn All-American status.

Lori Kletzer, Colby’s vice president for academic affairs and dean of faculty, says the former coach “challenged and inspired many hundreds of student athletes.” She says he remained active in Colby affairs after retiring in 2003.

Wescott lived in Belfast.
