The forecast for Mother’s Day is still looking pretty good. We’ll see partly to mostly sunny skies with highs able to make it into the upper 60s and low 70s inland with temps in the low to middle 60s along the coast. We could see a few isolated showers in the far north with a trough of low pressure located there. By Monday, highs will range from the low to mid 60s in Northern Maine to the upper 60s and low 70s everywhere else. Looks like it’ll be partly to mostly sunny again with a few showers possible in far Southern Maine in the afternoon and evening.
By Tuesday, we’ll see mostly sunshine as a ridge of high pressure move into the area from the north. Temps will be slightly cooler with highs in the upper 50s along the coast and in the low to mid 60s everywhere else. Wednesday looks to be similar but with increasing clouds in the evening as the next low pressure system begins to approach the area. Thursday looks to be a gray day with mostly cloudy skies and showers. Highs will be able to make it into the 60s.
*A lot of you may know this one, especially if you live along the coast, but since I mention several times in this forecast that temperatures will be cooler at the coast, I thought I’d give a brief explanation as to why exactly that is. Ocean temperatures at this time of year are generally colder than the normal daytime highs, so the ocean has a sort of moderating effect on the temperatures around it. You’ll notice the opposite of this in the winter when temps along the coast are generally slightly warmer than the daytime highs. You know that cool breeze off the water in the summer that might ruin your day at the beach? Yea, same idea. It’s even more obvious with an east wind. Make sense?
Today: Highs in the upper 60s and low 70s with temps a few degrees cooler at the coast. Partly to mostly sunny with a few showers north.
Monday: Highs in the upper 60s and low 70s with temps in northern Maine slightly cooler. Partly to mostly sunny with a few evening showers in southern locations.
Tuesday: Highs in the upper 50s and low to mid 60s with mostly sunny skies.
Wednesday: Highs in the 60s with temps a few degrees cooler at the coast. Mostly sunny with increasing clouds in the evening.
Thursday: Highs in the 60s with mostly cloudy skies. Coolest temps along the coast.
