Three Acres Burned in Hermon Wildfire

A wildfire tore through three acres of grass in Hermon Thursday.

Firefighters from several surrounding towns were called to Clark Road, just after 5 pm.

Forest rangers say a permitted burn got out of control when the wind picked up.

Responders feared the flames would spread into nearby woods.

Luckily only the edges of low-lying trees near the edge of the woods were singed.

Maine Forest Ranger Jerry Parsons said, “”The gentleman wanted to burn the field and pretty much what you see is a field burned but had it gone further into the woods it could have been a lot different situation.”

Rangers say wildfires are common this time of year.

Responders were called to three others today in Old Orchard, Scarboro, and Aurora.
