Tremont Man Pleads Not Guilty to Child Sex Crimes

A former teacher and coach at a Bass Harbor school entered a plea today to charges he had sex with a student fifteen years ago.

45-year-old Ben Hodgdon is a former teacher at Tremont Consolidated school.

This afternoon he pleaded not guilty in Hancock District Court in Ellsworth to charges he had sex with an eighth grader in 1999.

He appeared before a judge with his attorney David Van Dyke.

Hodgdon is charged with eight different counts including gross sexual assault, unlawful sexual contact and sexual abuse of a minor.

That student, we’re told, was a 13-year-old member of the cross country team which Hodgdon coached.

The abuse allegedly occurred on more than thirty different occasions back in 1999, but Hodgdon was not charged until this past January.

He remains free on bail pending his next court date, which is in July.
