Community Remembers Bangor Woman at 2nd Erin’s Run

Updated 7 months ago

Hundreds turned out in Bangor last year for an event honoring a woman from Bangor who passed away a few years ago.

Her legacy lives on, through Erin’s Run.

“Erin was certainly one of a kind.  Always dancing.  And always happy,” said Susan Lizotte, Head Coach of the UMaine Men and Women’s Swim Team.

“She was vibrant, and so sweet,  and could light up a room whenever she walked in,” said Amanda Cost of Spruce Run.

“We go way back. We grew up in the same neighborhood. And, she was a very special person. She had a great energy. She was a great friend and a lot of people really miss her,” said Ben Sprague, Bangor City Council Chair.

The memory of Erin Woolley is the inspiration behind an event to benefit two good causes.

She passed in 2010 from cancer.

The second annual Erin’s Run 5k Race to End Domestic Violence will bring people dressed in purple to the Bangor Waterfront.

Organizers hope for a turnout similar to last year.

“We’re really trying to be positive about it, and make it a celebration of Erin’s life, and that’s how she would’ve wanted it,” said Sprague.

The Bangor High, and UMaine, student was an avid swimmer, and worked at Spruce Run.

“She was a staff person, and a volunteer, worked in out legal program,  and our shelter,  and just brought so much spirit to the work.  It was wonderful to have her here  and we’re happy to keep her memory alive through this run,” said Cost.

Proceeds will go to them and to the UMaine’s Men and Women’s swim team, which she was a part of.

“I think everyone’s there for the same reason, you know, to honor a great woman,” said Lizotte.

“She was just an amazing person, and we miss her dearly everyday,” said Cost.

“We’re really trying to be positive about it, and make it a celebration of Erin’s life, and that’s how she would’ve wanted it,” said Sprague.

The race is Saturday, May 3rd, at 10am, starting at the Bangor Waterfront.

It’s $25 to register.

You can do that Friday night at Hero’s from five to seven.
